Lea and Golden Lad return here providing intrigue to short field renewal of this Donn prep. Valid’s lay-it-down effort versus Liam’s Map would be good enough to win here provided Lea doesn’t come back with the kind of performance he offered winning last year’s Donn. That’s unlikely given Mott’s style, but it still leaves Golden Lad (been working with Commissioner) eligible to tangle with the Vitali-Bocachica 5yo who has generally reacted after turning in biggest tries..

Most Likely: #2 Golden Lad 2-1 5th
Next Best: #1 Lea 9-5 WON ($4.00)
Exotics Use: #3 Valid 5-2 4th

8th: 17th Marshua’s River (G3), F&M-4+, 8.5f-T/60′ (P4, P3, DD)

Excellent group for this and Chad Brown ‘first NA’ invader Summer Moon looms large. Defending winner Parranda returns to Florida in debut for Clement and emergent owners China Horse Club. Strike Charmer and Pappascat were 1-2 in the Cardinal and reassemble for their 5yo seasonal bows. Fact that Davey Carroll ships over from Fair Grounds for this says Strike Charmer ready for good try and Simms’ Pappascat always seems to provide value outrunning her odds. Scampering (Shug/Janney) and Skylander Girl from low profile CDN outfit not impossible..

Most Likely: #7 Summer Moon 7-2 6th

Deep, contentious group with what figures to be an honest pace opening up eligibility for honors to easily half the field, or more. Of the shorter prices, Mshawish (4-1), Lochte (6-1) and Mosler (8-1) appear the most likely with Za Approval (5-2) and Mutin (5-1) needing to work out trips from wide berths. Of the value players, Silver Freak and Grand Tito — both 15-1 — look worthwhile inclusions with Grand Tito figuring to get a better scenario under Lezcano. Tough test for your multi-race budget..

Will be a challenge to duplicate the walk-off home run of 12/31/13, but the circumstances are eerily similar as we come to the year end. After a largely middling season of play in 2013, the $12k+ P6/P4 scores tipped the balance sheet in a positive direction and I could use the same heroics today to finish the year even or better. Today’s sequence feels more difficult than the one on New Year’s Eve last, but ‘must pay’ means ‘must play’!

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season and had a good year playing the horses. It was a pretty dramatic season overall that saw positive momentum steadily build and the pieces appear in place for 2015 to be another excellent year for the game despite what naysayers and brickbatters try to tell you. Warm wishes to Derby Trailers, ATR listeners, Dee Tee partners and industry stakeholders and their families for a bountiful New Year filled with health and contentment..

Have had a bit of a trying year as a Stable in 2014 with a 20/1-2-3 mark going into the start by William’sluckygray here. The on track performance was highlighted by the terrific outcome involved in the claim of and win by Pretension, but was muted by limited, injury-marred campaigns from One Revolution, Corybant and My Pal of Pals. The lowest point came mid-year with the unfair death of the beautiful Disco Rico colt produced by My Nina Rose. 2015 hopefully dawns well however with our Dunkirk filly running today, My Beholder back training in Florida, Ausable Chasm’s lovely Macho Uno yearling filly, a beautiful Artie Schiller 2yo filly and more. Thanks to all the partners and casual Stable fans for their support as Dee Tee continues to try and help introduce people to the game. This may not look like much at first glance, but it’s a very nice group and Secret Circle may not be as easy a P6 single as one might think. Bahamian Squall, returning 3yo Bolita Boyz, Seeking the Sherif and Distintiv Passion are all within striking range of the Baffert favorite and can win should he falter.
