I agree with this, the closer you are and the more you are impacted the less compassion you will have.

The most interesting thing about this thread to me and how it differs from Cancer etc..... Kev said if he goes to the bar he knows he will drink and not be able to stop. He has been able to avoid this temptation and not drink for a while now. People with cancer or other awful diseases do not have this option. While both are diseases I believe that people with alcoholism, at least in some cases, can make choices that will keep them healthy.
