I think a shorter term deal (3-4 years) would be great for him. At his age and if he stays healthy he could go through the free agent process again.

I disagree strongly. He isn't exactly a picture of good health. Show me the money now, this way I don't have to worry about mixing a few salads in to my diet. God only knows how big he might be 4 years from now.

I can't argue with that. He body type certainly isn't what you look for in athlete. But so far he's held together very well. He's averaged just under 160 games a year for the last six seasons. If he does sign a long-term deal he should have an opt-out clause in it after 3 or 4 years.

Genetics my friend. Look at his Papa. Fielder is a vegetarian and his body is the way it is at such a young age. No team will give him the Opt-out clause solely. A team might give him a long term contract with opt out clause on for either owner and player, but not just the player.
