Fredette shows excellent quickness, outstanding footwork and incredible creativity with the ball in his hands. He creates space to operate about as well as any guard in college basketball not named Kemba Walker, and he is a more complete scorer than Walker in terms of his offensive polish.

I guess I am not the only one seeing this...
Do you watch them chuck? Jameer Nelson averages 6 assists per game this season. Remember, he didn't start until his third year. Every year since then, he has averaged over 5 per game while still playing less than 30 minutes per game. If you weighed iy assists per minute, he is just as good as Tony Parker who is the definition of middle of the road starting NBA pg. How does jameer Nelson compare to jammer fredette??

Do you READ the articles you attach?

"The biggest concern about freddette's transition to the NBA clearly lies on the defensive end. He is a poor defender even at the college level showing average length, heavy feet and unimpressive lateral quickness."

F Jimmer. Kemba Walker is so clearly the best player in college basketball this year. It's not even close.

Oh ok Jameer Nelson isnt an undersized, shoot first PG. Averaging 5 assists a game is hardly the protypical NBA point guard. He did start 55 times his first 2 seasons. I like the guy and think he makes his game work but he isnt a "true" PG at least by any definition I have heard of.

How does Jameer Nelson compare to Jimmer Fredette?
Both played through senior season
Both played for mid majors
Both were scoring PG's in college
Assuming Fredette wins some POY awards as expected both were POY in senior season
Both are undersized for a typical NBA guard
Both averaged 20+ ppg as Seniors
Nelson was drafted 20th/Fredette is projected to go in that range though may wind up higher because of the weakness of this draft
Both can create their own shots
Both are good shooters with 3 point range
Both have great first steps and can split double teams
Neither is a good defender
Nelson is a bit quicker
Fredette is a better shooter
Both are excellent ball handlers

Yeah they are complete opposites

And was there a question that Fredette has issues on the defensive end?

Nelson can guard an NBA point guard. Fredette can't guard ANYBODY. Nelson is an adequate defender.
Nelson average just under 6 assists per game in his college career. Fredette averaged 3.7
Nelson is a true point guard. Shoot first, yes, but a point guard. Fredette is an undersized 2 guard that doesn't have the quickness, passing skills or floor reading ability to handle it at the next level. The fact that Nelson is a "bit quicker" makes all the difference in the world at the next level. That is like saying Derek Rose is a "bit quicker" than Derek Fisher at this point. That "bit" is light years and it means the Lakers would need Kobe to cover him. And if Derek Fisher is a "bit slow" what would that make Fredette? A bit crippled?

Comparing a slow white 6 2 shooting guard to a NBA quick 5 11 point guard is getting back into the Delonte West zone as far as silliness.

I have a feeling that with this rack of teams going to the final 4, the tickets will be available for alot less than face value...

Did someone just claim that BYU isn't a mid-major? BYU, who's leaving the Mountain West for the freaking WCC next year? BYU is the definition of mid-major.

Yeah, and the one dimensional steve young was a great QB there.

Edit *BYU is the definition of mid major.

I'm not sure what your point is, but if it was somehow that BYU isn't a mid-major, you're pretty wrong. Just because Steve Young played there doesn't make BYU suddenly a power school. That's like saying USF isn't a mid-major because Bill Russell once wore the uniform.

Anywho, for anybody who's followed college basketball more than five minutes, a "mid-major" is any team not in a BCS conference. The end.

Admit it they are quite comparable. Not hard to believe Nelson averaged more assists in college considering he played with an NBA backcourt mate who was good enough for the Celtics to sign this off season. When you have to resort to that you know you are grasping at straws. The point that I have been making is that they have comparable skill sets not they are identical twins or even equal in ability. You act as though I said the guy was similar to Shaq.

You seem to have some sort of racial bias considering you keep reminding us that Fredette is white. I know in the games I saw him play (maybe 4 times admittedly not that much since I probably have watched Nelson play 30 times this year) he didn't look slow to me. He isnt Tony Parker fast or Ramon Sessions fast but he isn't Bill Cartwright like you are making him out to be. Honestly how many times have you ever seen him play?

I would love to know how you know a guy doesn't have passing skills or floor reading ability since he obviously has been playing a different role in college and wasn't asked to do much traditional PG work. Of course you said Derrick Rose couldn't shoot and had no three point shooting ability which he obviously has shown he has this year. Did you think Russell Westbrook who averaged 12 and 4 the year prior to coming to the NBA would be averaging 22 and 8 three years later? He shot 68% FT's in college and 82% in the NBA. Did you see that coming as well?

Oh yeah Jameer Nelson is Nash-like on defense. He is just fortunate to play with Dwight Howard behind him.

Derek Rose and Russell Westbrook are so incredibly athletic that defenders have to give them five feet or risk being blown by. Shooting ability isn't speed or athleticism. You can become a better shooter but at 22, you aren't going to get any quicker. Rose's improvement in shooting ability has surprised me...no doubt. I didn't expect him to get this good and certainly not this fast. But he is a completely different realm of athlete.

I have watch fredette play since he was a freshman coming off the bench when Ainge's son was at BYU. It was one of the seasons that Bzdelik was coaching at Air Force and that program was actually relevant...to the MWC at least. Fredette was the spark off the bench. Now how many of those games did you watch Chuck?

As far as the Delonte thing, I totally forgot that him and Nelson were backcourt mates at St Joes! Now, was that a concidence or a freudian slip when you compared Fredette to Jameer Nelson? There are much better comparisons than Jameer Nelson. Wouldn't Alford be a much better comparison? Or even Fred Hoiberg? Or Chris Jackson? Chris Jackson could be a great comparison although not nearly as athletic (and no tourrette's).

The margin for success in the NBA is slim and it gets slimmer the smaller the player is. Fredette doesn't look slow because as you and slowdirt pointed out, he plays against mid majors. He looked pretty slow against Florida. He even looked pretty slow against Wofford. Can you imagine how slow he would have looked against Uconn or Duke????

If he's not going to have a career that spans over 5 seasons avg of say 2000 minutes a season, and he won't, then what's the point of being right?

Mother is Catholic and his father is Mormon. NO SHOT.

A column by Rick Reilly bolstering dumb-akhani's (HA! Get it, I took the "dal" out of dalakhani and spliced in another word to make it an insult! Turns out a personal attack takes very little brain power after all!) Jimmer argument:

Somehow I am guessing he wont be drawing double teams or face zones entirely designed to counter him at the next level like FL threw at him.

And I am supposed to believe you have been monitoring the BYU program for years?

Mahmoud Abdul Rauf had a decent enough NBA career (nine seasons in the league), though I don't think touretts had anything to do with it. Hey, let's insult dt.com posters and people with disabilities all in one swoop!
