The Nijinsky's Gold hint gave it away. His win over Lure in the Kelso was a highwater mark for Labreds. Tony Richey trained Nijinsky's Gold for many of his starts.

Correct on Flanders and Lure. The Derby winner was Go For Gin, although Sea Hero is obviously a good guess.

Nice one!! I knew I had seen the PP's before but had to go cheat and go back through the charts to figure out who it was.

I'm not good at these, but I was thinking Turk Passer but I remembered he didn't wear blinkers, he beat a pretty good field in the Turf Classic the year her won it.

Sea Hero was a horrendous guess. He romped in the Champagne in '92.

DrugS should be flogged for that answer.

Flanders winning and Lure getting beat happened in 1994 - the same year when Sea Hero couldn't beat anyone.

Correct... which is why I said it was a good guess. Go for Gin wasn't nearly in as bad of form.

I misread the question. I thought it was referring to only the Champagne Stakes and the Frizette.

If they ran Sea Hero in consistent races perhaps he would have been better at 4. His first start was a sprint (7f), then a main track route,. then a middle distance turf race, then a marathon turf race, etc. It seems like they were experimenting the whole season. He ran fairly well against fellow Grade 1 winner Fourstars Allstars in a 8.5f allowance (IIRC in 1:39+), so I'm not sure why they didn't pursue a miler type campaign. I think his next start off that race was the Sword Dancer at 12f.
