When I returned from Vietnam in 1969 and went job hunting, I found out quickly that there were not any. The most frustrating period of my life at the time. A college graduate, decorated military officer and it did not matter, jobs were hard to find.
Finding employment in the public sector was not an option due to the low pay scale at the time. Recent government studies have shown that the public sector pay scales have run away and hid from those in the private sector. In fact government employees can now "afford those digs."
