First, 60hrs a week is not "overworking" somebody who's job it is to take money and make change. 60hrs a week could be construed as overworking somebody doing manual labor, but most manual laborers I know, would love to get 60hrs + a week.

it's cheaper to pay someone ot than to hire more employees. that's a fact, and explains why many companies are doing the same work with less people. the people getting ot might not like it, not everyone wants to work over 40. but in the current climate, people aren't complaining much. they're happy to be working at all.
so yeah, when someone says in a headline 'toll workers raking it in' it sounds wasteful. but is it?

as an aside, perhaps the govt could look at ways to take some hiring burdens away? they've cut the payroll tax to employees, but not employers.
If they did hire more toll takers and reduce the hours of the current employees, the current employees would be howling from the rooftop that they are only making a measly $60k when they are used to making over $100k.

Somehow this is being ignored in this ridiculous debate.

Good luck with that perpetual victim thing
You're jumping to a conclusion about Cannon, but if he did feel this way, he'd be right a vast majority of the time.

I just find it funny that some people try to constantly discuss serious politcal points on a horse racing board (like it just never stops). The amount of material that is posted is absolutely mind blowing. It's almost like Drugs going to some Political board and wanting to have a serious discussion about speed figures in a sports room. If you have all this time and really believe in your cause, why waste it here? Wouldn't you be better off served debating people who are as devoted to politics as you are? Or is it possible, if you went in to the deep end of the pool with the real political know it all's, these people would expose you for the frauds that you are? So instead you just stay here in the kiddie pool, post constant dribble, praise Obama and the great job that he's doing and debate with people who stumbled in to a thread because Aqueduct and Gulfstream were dark.

Although I disagree with Riot on many many things, she does fight a good fight, you on the other hand seem do a pretty good job holding her purse. I'm really not sure what you bring to the table. Actually the more I think about it, you seem to play both sides on many occasions. I guess you are a true politican at heart.
Thank you for this contribution of sanity to this thread.

very true!! and it boggles the mind to see good union brothers hogging jobs rather than pushing for hires-thus increasing the amount of union members. people are all for unions when it fills their need, and against them when it doesn't. after 9-11 the mill had a temporary slowdown, and cut electricians to 32 hours. some senior guys wanted their 40, cut the junior men to 24 they said...yeah, real union-esque.
my husband happened to be in a breakroom at work when some folks were griping about the $2 per pay period increase in union dues. they were outraged, and wanted to know just who agreed to that?! he said it had been discussed over a period of meetings, and then voted on, and that they should have been at the meeting to voice their opinion and make their choice.

at any rate, people making the kind of money to push their ot to those levels for toll collection is absolutely outrageous. just points yet again to the issue of govt workers making more than the private sector, which is ridiculous and makes no sense.
