I'm trying to understand how someone collecting an entitlement would side with the party that wants to eliminate entitlements. I can't wrap my arms around that.
It was the lead headline on Drudge last night!

I don't believe that the GOP want to eliminate entitlements. I think this mostly cannon fodder for the press. Also, I dont think SSDI is an entitlement per se.

not begrudging you anything but if ssdi isn't an entitlement, what do you define as one?

Firstly, you pay into this specific acct all through your working years, and I can't remember if it has a yearly cap or not. Possibly welfare and food stamps might be considered as stronger entitlements.

I'm tired of the term "entitlement", being used as if it's a bad word, as if it's something stolen. It's not. Thanks to the far right for that.

It used to mean that Americans and the least fortunate (children, disabled) were "entitled" to peace of mind in their old age or with their disability, were entitled to an old age with health care and devoid of poverty.

The "entitlement" of Social Security has dropped elder poverty from around 50% when it was initiated, to virtually nothing now.

Timm, c'mon - eliminating entitlements is a basic Republican tenant currently. The core of the Republican Party right now is to privatize and thus eliminate Medicare, Medicaid (that is contained in the current Ryan budget proposal) and they'd love to get rid of Social Security and replace it with private accounts (tried in the past, will be tried again in the future)
