Hard to say yet but not overly fond of the breeding of early contenders. Uncle Mo, for example, may yet be any kind but breeding a concern!

My impression is that this crop has more potential than most of recent years. I'd have to go back maybe 10-12 years to find this many horses with this much promise. Whether that promise will be fulfilled is the question. |

Interesting that some folks here have such a high opinion of themselves that they cannot disagree in a civil manner.

Really? How so? Almost every single crop in the last 10 years has sucked, and you know it. |

Put Data Link in the Wood. Give him a shot.

A lot of times they only appeared to suck because the older male division was actually strong and deep. Curlin, Street Sense, and Hard Spun wouldn't have looked very good to a lot of people if Ghostzapper, Mineshaft, Congaree, Medgalia D' Oro, Pleasantly Perfect, Roses In May etc are all going strong in the handicap division. |

The 2007 3yos were insanely overrated, in large part to what you say above. As to those really good older horses you mention, those were all 3yos from nearly 10 years ago. |

3-year-old crops since 2000:
2010: pure dogsh!t 2009: A 3yo filly was open lengths superior to everything 2008: Big Brown and a bunch of dogsh!t 2007: Solid crop - not as talented at the top as '06, but much deeper. 2006: Bernardini, Discreet Cat, Barbaro - no depth though 2005: Afleet Alex, Bellamy Road - and a lot of junk 2004: solid crop - but the older males were friggen strong. 2003: Very solid crop - but the older males were friggen strong 2002: War Emblem, Medaglia D' Oro, Came Home - avg depth 2001: VERY strong wildly underrated crop going into the Kentucky Derby - injuries took a big toll. Almost everything got hurt before year end. 2000: Awesome crop. VERY talented and easily the deepest of all since. |

Yeah, most of the crops recently have sucked but you could have picked 10 exciting maiden or allowance winners most of those years in March and speculated about what they could have been. They never end up being anything. |

Maybe 3 or 4 tops - and they will almost always have sprint pedigrees like Eightyfiveinafifty - even Big Brown had a sprint pedigree. Since Curlin's big Jan maiden win - how many promising 3yo's with two races or less and distance friendly pedigrees have we seen? |

I think there's not much depth at all in this crop. They don't run enough and the Derby trail in general is getting more and more difficult to get excited about. |

It might be the strongest crop since. . . 2007.

At this point in the year - Curlin only had a maiden race under him. Hard Spun had just run 3rd or 4th to Tuffelsburger in the Southwest. Street Sense still hadn't raced.
Any Given Saturday was workmanlike in a narrow win over a Michigan bred lonshot in the Sam Davis last out. Nobiz Like Shobiz was just a weak 3rd to Scat Daddy and Stormello in the Fountain of Youth. This crop won't look good until horses actually start to race. |
