[quote=miraja2;753096]But you did say she was okay.

I did. Okay as in: not dead, not torn to shreds, alive and safe in US custody and care. I then twice explained further what I meant by that. Which you are ignoring. So sorry for expanding upon that for those indignant readers' understanding.

Let's all also ignore the, "she totally deserved it", etc. disgusting trolling crap.

Not to mention that I'm the only poster on here who expressed any concern at all for Logan, while the subject of the thread and the words of several others here are just using Logan, co-opting her brutal attack for their Islamophobia hate campaign.

Yeah - how DARE I express happiness she's "okay", considering what could have been. Better I talk about how all Egyptians are brutal terroristic rapists when given a glimmer of democracy, and how Logan totally deserved it. Because that's okay and perfectly accepted here on Derby Trail.

Few people take a point that I basically agree with and mangle it beyond all recognition quite like you.

There's no way on earth I could possibly agree with anything that Riot put in her first post in this thread. it was one of the worst posts I've ever read on Derby Trail that was written by a semi-able minded person.

It most likely was not meant in this manner.. but it came off sounding like "oh it was just 200 egyptians, don't stereotype them... this stuff happens in America all the time... glad she's okay."

The poor woman was gang raped... she's far from Okay. Alive? Yes? Okay? doubtful.

and adding this phrase: "Yeah, that's never happened in the United States, women getting attacked and raped after football celebrations, during street parades/parties, etc." was ridiculous.

Riot would have been much better off skipping this thread.

She just said what she truly feels. If nascar is a racist then so is she. It's obvious in her posts she has pent-up rage for white people.

you may have, as Nascar so brilliantly put it, "put the nail in the dagger"

And you would have been much better off, having read both my elaborations on my comments, not simply choosing to completely ignore them, and completely obviously misunderstand the second, so you could continue to diss me for something I hardly meant.

But hey - no class there, right?

The worst posts I've ever read on Derby Trail are the outright racist ones. The cursing, swearing, attack posts. The bigoted haters. Not posts expressing concern for another human. But to each his own.

completely ignore them! That is not the Nerdy Trail way. Yes you explained away the "she's okay" comment..

but I dont think you have explained the ridiculous "Yeah, that's never happened in the United States, women getting attacked and raped after football celebrations, during street parades/parties, etc."

Oh! Do you really care about that now? Because you're known for your pent-up rage against white people.

I took it to mean that she felt like randall's posts seemed to indicate that he was taking the actions of the rapists as representative of the entire Egyptian people while ignoring everything else that had happened in Cairo in recent weeks.
On that point, I basically agree with her.

As for saying she was "okay," it seems like Riot meant to say "I'm glad that at least they didn't kill her." I suppose that is a fair point too but, as usual, she didn't make the point very clear and then flew into attack mode when people (understandably) questioned her use of the word "okay."

Because hey, that's far more important to light upon, than questioning if someone actually takes the actions of the rapists as representative of the entire Egyptian people.

And by the way - I didn't say she was okay. I say I was glad she will be okay. Slight difference.

Randall was right on when talking about the representation of the Egyptian men protestors.

You have to read this:

http://www.cnn.com/2011/OPINION/02/1...x.html?hpt=T2#

"If you are a woman living in Cairo, chances are you have been sexually harassed. It happens on the streets, on crowded buses, in the workplace, in schools, and even in a doctor's office.

According to a 2008 survey of 1,010 women conducted by the Egyptian Center for Women's rights, 98 percent of foreign women and 83 percent of Egyptian women have been sexually harassed."

98% of foreign women and 83% of Egyptian women seem like its a huge cultural problem to me.

But hey, Riot will just call me a bigot because I feel like Muslim men... particularly in the Middle East.. treat women like absolute dog crap.

I'll call you a bigot if you act like one. Are you?

Sexual harassment is a disgusting practice. But wouldn't you agree that there is a pretty big difference between sexual harassment and what happened here?
Clearly there is a vast cultural divide with regard to the rights of women, but the implication in the thread seemed to be that "Democracy In Egypt" would mean the systematic raping of women. I think its a bit more complicated than that, and I think Riot was correct in pointing out that the weeks of protest without widespread reports of rape shouldn't be tossed aside by this one - admittedly horrendous - incident.

I don't think anybody is saying that an Egyptian democracy will mean a state where women are afforded equal rights. But that doesn't mean it will automatically be a society where women are raped all the time (or where rape is viewed as acceptable) either.
