So wouldn't that make the Gulf of Cheney comment from the marketwatch guy a bit unfair?

Obama is now in favor of off shore drilling and there was an unfortunate accident. But somehow this is still the prior administrations fault.

Tar balls found on Key West beaches today.

Underwater oil plume estimated to be 10 miles long, 3 miles wide. Oil over one of five major deep coral reefs. Dead porpoises wash up on shore.

BP proud that they've inserted a 4-inch draft into a 20-inch pipe, collecting about a fifth of what is continuing to spill daily.

I say blame Clinton. The Rig was designed, permitted and built on his watch.

bad math riot. you can fit five 4" pipes down just one axis of a 20" pipe. that's assuming 20" is the interior dimension of the larger pipe and 4" the exterior dimension of the smaller. which isn't the case. but pretending it is, you still have a lot of 20" pipe left after you do that.

4" pipe area is the radius (2') x 3.14 squared= 39.4 square inches

20" pipe area is the radius (10") x 3.14 squared = 986 square inches

that's about 4%, not 20%.

I think there is a distinction between the philosophy of many in the Right who want to drill everywhere and anywhere they can versus the very select and controlled space that Obama proposed. My personal feeling is that even Obama's proposal is too much, but to compare "Drill Baby, Drill" to what he proposed is a night and day difference.

I'm not arguing about the difference of philosophies. The point I was trying to make is that our current President does support off shore drilling. Maybe not to the extend of the prior administration, but he is still in favor of it. And to blame the Bush camp at this point is unjust. If you want to cast blame at anyone, how about at the people that caused it.

Companies will be drilling in the Gulf no matter what America proposes. Then Cuba & Mexico will just take the Gulf's oil. It doesnt really matter.. we might as well not sit on the sidelines and watch others take the oil with the same chance of a spill.

You're right, but the morons chanting "drill baby drill" are simply too stupid and/or ignorant to know any better. The current administration should know better than continuing to support the expansion of this off-shore crap, but until this catastrophe they sure didn't behave as if they did.
Obviously no administration is at fault for what happened, but even though the catastrophe and the administration's policy announcement awhile back are unrelated, the spill should make some members of this administration feel like a bunch of dolts because, on this issue, that's how they were behaving.
