![]() The interesting thing that came to me from the article was the statement that, of the multiple-Derby winning riders, only Borel and Chris Antley are not in the Hall of Fame. If asked to rate these two riders, it's not close, and I'm not picking Borel.
In looking at Borel's career record, he has only won three riding titles at a major venue (and all came at Churchill Downs, in 1998, 2007 and 2009). He had relatively few (for a potential Hall of Famer) major stakes wins before 2005, and even those since then are mostly on two horses (Street Sense and Rachel Alexandra). A lot of people are trying to draw an analogy to another sports figure. I'd suggest "Big Shot" Robert Horry, who was reknowned for his clutch shooting as a member of 7 NBA chamionship teams. However, he only averaged about 8 points a game during his career. Is he a basketball Hall of Famer? |
