![]() Mike Kane was the long time communications director of the Hall of Fame. He's very qualified to consider Borel's resume on this topic, and what he lists as the accomplishments to date absolutely place Calvin on the HOF cusp. His career isn't over by a long stretch, so he'll end up with way over 5,000 wins. Fold in these late career heroics on the national stage, and I think you have to acknowledge that Borel is approaching Hall worthiness.
His major stakes wins (Wikipedia) Breeders' Cup Juvenile (2006) Kentucky Derby (2007, 2009, 2010) Preakness Stakes (2009) Super Derby (1991) Arkansas Derby (1993) Count Fleet (1995) Falls City Handicap (1996, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2008) Apple Blossom Handicap (1997, 2001) Fleur de Lis Handicap (1997, 2009) Essex Handicap (1998, 2007) Clark Handicap (1999) Kentucky Cup Classic Handicap (1999) Bashford Manor Stakes (2000, 2008) Oaklawn Handicap (2000) Bourbon Stakes (2002) Silverbulletday Stakes (2003) Ack Ack Handicap (2004) Stephen Foster Handicap (2006) Amsterdam (2006) Tampa Bay Derby (2007) Travers Stakes (2007) Sword Dancer (2007) Alabama Stakes (2007) Jim Dandy Stakes (2007) Razorback Breeders' Cup Handicap (2008) Golden Rod Stakes (2002,2008) Hal's Hope Handicap (2009) Fair Grounds Oaks (2009) Fantasy Stakes (2009) Kentucky Oaks (2009) Louisville Stakes (2009) Haskell Invitational (2009) Woodward Stakes (2009) Mother Goose (2009) Kentucky Jockey Club (2009) Derby Trial (2010)

![]() Yeah. Kayla is okay, for those who don't watch GG racing (and still feel the need to comment). If someone works those premature move tendencies out of her, she'd be as good as any female jock in the country. Good thing she's in a colony with R Baze.

![]() But I would hope they stop basing the Hall Of Fame for Horseracing based on number of wins. I think Russell Baze would fit my argument.
Silky Sullivan Handicap (1981, 1988) California Derby (1981) Golden Gate Fields Handicap (1982, 2000) Bay Meadows Handicap (1982, 1995, 2005) Oak Tree Invitational Stakes (1984,1989) El Camino Real Derby (1984, 1998, 2005, 2006, 2007) Del Mar Debutante Stakes (1986) Longacres Mile Handicap (1988, 2003, 2004) San Carlos Handicap (1990) San Gorgonio Handicap (1990) Oak Leaf Stakes (1990) Bed O' Roses Breeders' Cup Handicap (1991) Oklahoma Derby (1996) Jim Beam Stakes (1998) Lane's End Stakes (1998) Bay Meadows Breeders' Cup Sprint (2002) Bay Shore Stakes (2005) King's Bishop Stakes (2005) Sunshine Millions Dash (2005) Churchill Downs Handicap (2006) Aristides Breeders' Cup Stakes (2006) Azalea Breeders' Cup Stakes (2008) California Oaks (2009) Lost in the Fog Stakes (2009) Sunshine Millions Classic (2010) San Francisco Breeders' Cup Mile 2010 Over 10k wins and have not won nothing to write a special book on. |

You give Russel Baze the horses that other Hall of Fame riders had and Baze would have also won with them and if the roles were reversed I dont think a single rider in the Hall would of got the wins Russell got with the horse he rode. |

![]() Answer this; How come when Russell Baze a.k.a Baze Meadow or Russell Gate Field showed up in BC or triple crown races he did nothing? Hell I recall several top notch horses he had mounts on did absolutely nothing. Before Ron Hansen was found on the rocks below the Golden Gate bridge. Baze was just racking up wins on the fair circuit and low level 5k claimers. I will always have a lack of understanding how this guy made it into the Hall of Fame. Then again, this was the first year you did not have to pick one from each category.
Decent rider yes....great rider....hell freaking no! |
