Members of the Tea Party didn't start out calling themselves "teabaggers". That name has been given to us by the left wing media. I'm relatively certain that a vast number of Tea Party members have no conception as to the vulgar meaning of the word. But, we have been called worse. Sticks and stones....

I'm all for a National ID card. It would solve a lot of problems. I wouldn't consider it any more of an infringement on my rights than showing my photo'd driver's license. If the federal government chooses inertia on the issue, perhaps each state could issue different DL's - one type to USA citizens, and another type to those who are not. I'd gladly pay extra $$$'s for that type of national security.

You know who proposed a National ID Card and who voted it down?

I'm not blaming any person or party for the failure to launch on this proposal. Both parties are afraid to do anything about it because it just might decrease their Hispanic votes.

I am in favor of it, fyi. Clinton tried to push it through it '93 and both sides slammed him hard.

According to this, the Clinton administration was against it:

http://www.apatheticvoter.com/NationalIdentityCard.htm

Good read - gives both pros and cons. A lot of the cons are "fear mongering". That nutcase Ron Paul says the government will implant some kind of chip whereby everyone can be tracked. HUH?!

Keep it simple - proof of citizenship gets you a National photo ID photo. Perhaps it can be counterfeited - just spend money on the technology whereby it can't.

Better yet - make it VOLUNTARY - not mandatory. Wonder how many people would go for it. HMMMmmmmmm - think the go for its would far outnumber the hell no's.

I don't have to, Beth - I can look right through you and everyone who turns a blind eye as to how this nation is getting screwed by POTUS and his puppet masters.

I was talking about the Teabaggers calling themselves that. Before they were informed what other meaning it had.

This nation is lucky to have this President, at this time in history. McCain-Palin? Dear gawd, what a disaster.

BTW, I can look right through you, too. And it ain't pretty.

Sorry - Tea Party Members sent tea bags to the white house last April 15th. The press slapped that name on us.

And, if indeed you can look right through me, what you see on the other side most definitly isn't "pretty".

Mc Cain was a weak candidate, but the press just pushed him along. McCain scrambling at the last minute was advised to choose Palin as his running mate. I have no dislike for Sarah Palin, but she'd do best doing what she's doing now. I do not see her as someone who should hold an office in Washington - senator, congresswoman, VP, or President.

Then, the Democratic Party turned their back on their standard bearer - Hillary Clinton and goes for some guy who made an impressive canned speach at the Democratic Convention 4 years previous. Take that telepromter away from him and let him speak off the cuff at questions just fired at him, and he has more "uhs" than Paris Hilton. That's not articulate.

What a freakin' fiasco. It's a dreadful shame that Obama and McCain were the two best candidates in a country of 300 million people. Unbelievable!

For myself? I really shouldn't let it bother me so much. What's going on now won't really affect me. We're retired, self-sufficient, and have all our life lines in place. Our future is NOW. We have no children or grandchildren to worry about. I probably shouldn't worry for others if they don't want to worry about themselves.

This isn't the 50's - you know, that era for which you seem to have so much scorn - but I sure would love to go back to those times:

HIGH SCHOOL - 1957 vs. 2010

Scenario 1:

Jack goes quail hunting before school and then pulls into the school parking lot with his shotgun in his truck's gun rack.

1957 - Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack's shotgun, goes to his car and gets his shotgun to show Jack.

2010 - School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers.

Scenario 2:

Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.

1957 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.

2010 - Police called and SWAT team arrives -- they arrest both Johnny and Mark. They are both charged with assault and both expelled even though Johnny started it.

Scenario 3:

Jeffrey will not be in class, he disrupts other students.

1957 - Jeffrey is sent to the Principal's office and expelled from school for a week. When his parents find out, he gets punished by them, as well. He then returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again.

2010 - Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin. He becomes a zombie. He is then tested for ADD. The family gets extra money (SSI) from the government because Jeffrey has a disability.

Scenario 4:

Billy breaks a window in his neighbor's car and his Dad gives him a whipping.

1957 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a successful businessman.

2010 - Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang. The state psychologist is told by Billy's sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has an affair with the psychologist.

Scenario 5:

Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school..

1957 - Mark shares his aspirin with a school buddy who also has a headache.

2010 - The police are called and Mark is expelled from school for drug violations.
His car is then searched for drugs and weapons.

Scenario 6:

Pedro fails high school English.

1957 - Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and goes to college.

2010 - Pedro's cause is taken up by state Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against the state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English is then banned from core curriculum. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.

Scenario 7:

Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the Fourth of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle and blows up a red ant bed.

1957 - Ants die.

2010 - ATF, Homeland Security and the FBI are all called. Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism. The FBI investigates his parents -- and all siblings are removed from their home and all computers are confiscated. Johnny's dad is placed on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.

Scenario 8:

Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.

1957 - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.

2010 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.

Go, Arizona, and good night!

i saw a pic the other day of a woman with tea bag earrings....cracked me up.

as for being lucky about having obama-we'll see. much like horses, you need time after it's over to truly judge if someone was a success or failure.

The current Democratic proposal has a national ID card. I see a great deal of difference between a national ID card - which should have the same requirements as a US passport - and a license to drive a car.

Driver's licenses are easy to get. It depends upon the state. I don't see any "national security" at all there. Illegals already have plenty of driver's licenses now.
