Again it's odd the murders of 56 black people, so far this year, in Baltimore, prior to the killing of Freddie Gray didn't seem to matter to anyone. We're less than halfway thru this year. Will the next 56 murders committed by those outside of the police department matter?

I also wonder if Mr. Gray would have been one preventing the violence or one participating in the violence?

I must ask the author of the article you cited why she left out the pumpkin and football rioters' actions of looting and attacking police.

And JMS must be busy otherwise he'd be on here typing 'straw man argument'

Too bad there isn't a Loyola Academy in every city.
They rioted in 1915?

Wow I wouldn't go that far. The Judicial System failed him as he obviously belonged in prison. What I'm wondering is how did he survive all those police beatings (at least 18) previous to him being killed?

What many here don't know, especially those who have never lived in big cities is Police know who the bad guys are. Neighbors know who the bad guys are. And above all family members know who the bad guys are. The media portrays the police as pulling up to the kid with no reason, neglecting to divulge his previous criminal record as if it doesn't matter.

I guess nothing beats the ratings that come with a good riot.

His Rap sheet could be 20 pages but in our country you are afforded a trial. You don't show up after a trip to the station dead with your spinal cord nearly severed. That may happen at the hands of the Tonton macoute in Hati but should NEVER happen in the United States. Now I'm sure you will justify it by saying 99% of all offenders are brought in alive .
