Were they running on turf out there today? Just seemed like a strangely run race.

You want a better more recent example on wraps with 3yr olds and Pletch? Look at Bluegrass Cat's PPs....Wraps came on and whiff, gone.

Not at all....Want another, first time Sun King ever wore wraps was for a money allowance at Toga. Saw him in the Paddock, ouchy mess, finished 4th and was gone....Again, who the trainer is and their style is what matters.

He did the same thing to Americn Lion in the San Felipe. The guy's got to realize he's not riding on turf every race.

Awesome Act, as evidenced by the Gotham, has a short burst of speed, and the ride hardly cost him second money. Maybe the pace did....but more likely it was his distance limitations.....or relative lack of talent. Jackson Bend ran MUCH better than he did.

Jackson Bend is a tough, honest little SOB. He could clean up in a Gr. II career.

Maybe AA has distance limitations but I don't see where today's performance indicates this. |

You're right that today's race doesn't show distance limitations, and maybe I am projecting incorrectly, but horses with one quick burst like he has often aren't more effective the longer they go. However, given the likely pace scenerio in the Derby he could certainly be the one who is a distant second to Eskendereya ( or fill out the Eskendereya-Lookin at Lucky tri ). Given Eskendereya stays sound, and doesn't get knocked over, this Derby is a foregone conclusion. It's a man among boys.

A decent amount of money has been burned by the runners out of the Gotham. The figure looked suspiciously high, although Leparoux rode Awesome Act like HE was the 3-5 favorite. Dutrow's horse ran decently in Stickney, but was crazily overbet. Supposedly the Rags had huge numbers for the Gotham runners. I hear they are still looking for Nacho Friend to finish the Sunland Derby from last Saturday.
