| How to lose 62 turf routes in a row and counting I suppose this could be the title of John Velazquez's first book. He's currently 1-for-63 in two-turn turf races this meet at Saratoga. After not riding in the 1st race on opening day, he won a nose bob going two-turns on the turf with 3/5 favorite Freedom Rings. He's ridden 62 straight losers and counting since. Most troubling ... even in important Grade 2 stake races where he's riding the controlling speed ... he still insists on going 5 wide ... like he did on Cowboy Cal the whole way around the 1st turn. If Velazquez ever catches a turf course where the 5 path is actually the best place to be ... he will get hot fast. |
