How to lose 62 turf routes in a row and counting

I suppose this could be the title of John Velazquez's first book.

He's currently 1-for-63 in two-turn turf races this meet at Saratoga.

After not riding in the 1st race on opening day, he won a nose bob going two-turns on the turf with 3/5 favorite Freedom Rings. He's ridden 62 straight losers and counting since.

Most troubling ... even in important Grade 2 stake races where he's riding the controlling speed ... he still insists on going 5 wide ... like he did on Cowboy Cal the whole way around the 1st turn.

If Velazquez ever catches a turf course where the 5 path is actually the best place to be ... he will get hot fast.

Wow..that is unbelievable!

He lost his cock and balls a few years ago at Keeneland.

And he loses yet again.. If I am an owner I would tell Pletcher that in no way I want him on my horse on the turf. What a joke.

yeah, Andy has talked about this a few times today, tough times for Johnny v.

Prado can't be far behind.

JV and Prado put on a great show right there, JV 22 and change to the quarter in a 1 1/8th race, and Prado 3 wide from the 3 post....:zz:

And I like Little Miss Julien in the Night-cap... Oh well

Desormeaux then pushed Prado four wide like he wasn't there, that was just ugly.

People that still play these guys at short prices on the grass deserve to lose their money.

That's a sprint, not a route, fire away.

Left Bank 09-05-2009 05:01 PM

Do I hear 63.....??????

golfer 09-05-2009 05:31 PM

Out of all the horses he's lost on during the "streak", he gets this one across the line first??????? Remarkable.

The Indomitable DrugS 09-05-2009 05:35 PM

Yeah, a $2.2 million yearling out of a dam who ran for a tag and has produced nothing.

4 wide on both turns and it didn't matter. Streak ends at 65

eajinabi 09-05-2009 05:36 PM

2 for 63.

The Indomitable DrugS 09-05-2009 05:43 PM

I think he was 5 wide on the final turn.

johnny pinwheel 09-05-2009 09:22 PM

its not just turf. he has alot of seconds on the dirt. he misses the break and in the maiden races thats the kiss of death. if linda rice wins the title she can thank him.
