Default Workout On Race Day

How unusual is it for a horse to work the morning of a race? Negative or positive?

Rising Honour race 4 at Del Mar today, worked 4f in 48.4 handily this morning.

Horse must be a real head case, takes some of extra energy out of him so he isnt completely out of control before the race. I used to swim my horse the morning of a race.

Maybe they found another spot where they would rather run her and they plan to scratch this afternoon.

I wonder if any of the published racing intelligencia has covered this angle.

Probably a nice one to add to a set of conditions that includes:

1) highest Beyer for the race
2) Quirin speed points stickout
3) high percentage trainer
4) high percentage jock
....

Oops, I omitted a biggie: 1st time gelding.

Slap on a nice size REBATE and the ROI is positive.

1'st time gelding is a biggie, if it makes sense.

Don't know if that is negative or positive but her pedigree is interesting.

there are "schooling" type of things like changing lead or a new equipment change that could theoretically be beneficial to reinforce on race day

... but yea, probably a nervous wreck

Ohhh so that's why he lost the Belmont. Glad that's cleared up, for awhile there I thought it was the low point in the cycle when he was clearing out all that testicle shrinking, rage making, cancer creating evil poison. It's nice to know BB was spent from his AM breezy, that day he turned into the reincarnation of Yankee myth Joe Hardy.......
