Due to the immigration crackdown, if you want to get into the horse business this fall will probably be a good chance if you live in NY. They are expecting a shortage of workers at Belmont. They screw you on the license fees but some trainers might even pay for the license for you. Pay sucks, usually $225-$300 for entry level hotwalkers but everyone starts at the bottom.
Just show up at the gate off Hempstead Turnpike next week (Wed/Thurs) and you should be able to find something. 5:30am is usually a good time. If you have a certain trainer you would like to work for sometimes you can just walk in and ask around. Good luck. |
