So I had a derby party and missed the super by a nose when Wicked Strong nosed the Rat. Most of my non racing friends were shocked that a Super bet could pay 8000 dollars for a modest bet. racing needs to focus on the fact racing provides the big scores and winning 8K betting sports at 110 to win 100 is so much more difficult.

The guy is a sports bettor who has never showed an interest in the track. Absolutely floored that he made 5x his investment- And called me this week to find out if I was playing this weekend - Wants to learn how to handicap horses. Agree completely - A sports bettor that gets a taste of a big payout will at least show an interest in wanting to learn more - |

I say the same thing - I have no interest in a less than 1:1 odds return. |

When friends of mine want to make a bet (on some other matter) - the sports bettors always say "straight up?"
I reply "I am a horseplayer - you've got to give me odds." |

i think the meadowlands is working well and monmouth should follow suit. other ways and venues are needed for revenue to sustain these tracks. the slots will come one day. just a matter of time.
