![]() Can't imagine they're not aiming for $1 million before retirement. Came up just short. Hopefully one more start will do it and get him that final $291. I know it sounds silly to have a G1 winner in that situation, but if he's sound, it's not the worst goal. He won't be getting back to GSW level so this is the biggest achievement he can still get.
He's had a couple really long layoffs in his career, but it's been a few years since then. Monzante was coming back off a 3rd long layoff when he had his problem. |

![]() So the previous owners hit $1 million and kept going? Ok, I think I'm allowed to call anybody who races after that point jerks. It was understandable enough (though not applaudable) when it was a matter of hundreds of dollars until he hits a milestone like that. He could've gone out a winner to boot. Hopefully he'll at least go out after that 10th place. If you thought it was bad when Monzante broke down, wait til a millionaire has to be euthanized. The outrage will be deafening. Talk about a PR nightmare too.
It's not just about the big name horses, but it's what they represent about our commitment to dealing with this issue. Definitely hope the new connections do the right thing. Maybe they claimed him for that purpose. He's earned a retirement many times over. |
