To me the mindset that led to profiling and the following of Trayvon is similar to the mindset that leads the media to believe African Americans were going to riot if the jury came back not guilty.

My question is why CNN put a cheating minister, who is waiting for his felon son and felon daughter-in-law to get sentenced, living 1500 miles away from Sanford as some sort of spokesman for the African American community? My Lord couldn't they find someone local with no felonious children, faithful to his wife and with no bastard children to represent the community?
Todays media try to influence events to make news. The verdict was just. The Stand your ground law is ****ed up.
If Derby Trail had a stand your ground law it would be crickets in here. Id be dead a long long time ago.

I don't think 'stand your ground' proponents accounted for wanna-be cops who after a year working out in a MMA gym still can't throw a punch, on neighborhood patrol.

In a chicken or egg argument did Zimmerman target Trayvon because he was a racist profiling or using statistics? I have no clue as to the racial makeup of criminals in Sanford but in Chicago young black males between 16-30 account for 70% of murder offenders yet they make up under 10% of the population. Sometimes the facts aren't PC. Tragically in Chicago African Americans also account for 75% of murder victims.

That said, Zimmerman should have left the gun at home when on patrol and used his cell to call police. Or better yet, just stayed at home, with his gun protecting himself and family from potential intruders. Much less likely to make a mistake.

The media's continuous race baiting during and now after the trial ignores the fact that what they consider racist America currently has an African American President heading up the country and a African American Attorney General representing the country in legal matters.

BTW Because it was an all-women jury do you think they can/will change their minds? (That was a joke people)

Murders are indeed down in Chicago and in fact in the last 20 years have been cut by half from 928 in 1991 to 433 in 2011.
Yet by simply looking inside the stats, trends can be determined and solutions different from the asinine midnight basketball leagues can be formulated.

1) In 1991 of the 928 murders committed, 619 were cleared for a 67% average. In 2011 of the 433 murders committed 128 were cleared for a dismal 29.5% rate. Thus in 1991, 309 murders went unsolved while in 2011, 305 went unsolved.

2) In 1991 76% of murder victims were black, in 2011 75%.

3) In 1991 81% of murder offenders were black, in 2011 70% thanks in large part to the 20% Hispanic contribution. How many were illegal was not included in the study.

4) In 1991 47.5% of murders were committed in the public way and 26% in the residence. In 2011 68.4% were committed in the public way and 13% in the residence.

5)In ’91, 61% of victims had a prior arrest record, ’11 77% had a prior record.

6) In ’91, 70% of offenders had a prior record, in ’11 87% had a record.

7) In ’91 16% of murders were Streetgang or Gang Narco related while 11% were domestic. In ’11 33% were gang related while just 4% were domestic.

So while the author, Elspeth Reeve, correctly applauds the drop in overall murder rates she avoids the facts inside the stats. Oh and Cabrini-Green is now low rise townhomes, some of which were dedicated to section 8 housing are selling at a half million and up. Gang related murders as a ratio have doubled while domestic offenses have decreased by 50%. 87% of offenders have a prior record. Murders on the street are up 20% while those in the residence are down 50%. Police are clearing half of the murders today as they did in 1991.

Despite Chicago being one of the most gun restrictive cities in America, only recently succumbing to the Constitution and allowing handguns (in the home! That’s right folks Chicago outlawed handguns in your own home) it remains among the top on the murder capital leaderboard.

Illinois has a minimum/mandatory sentence on serious gun offenses of two years. The IL Department of Corrections has a one-day off for every good day of behavior policy, effectively making the minimum/max a year. Yet every effort to raise the sentence, even to three years is met with cries of racism from the likes of Jesse Jackson & Co. because as the Rev. says it unfairly targets blacks as they are the ones most often found guilty of the offense. (BTW Kudos to the Rev. on giving credit to Trayvon for paying for his skittles and tea as though the norm for young black youth is to steal them).

We know from the stats 87% of murderers have a prior record. By simply raising the minimum/max to 10 years with a stipulation 85% has to be served how many lives would be saved simply because the culprit is behind bars? The ones that think twice of doing a crime because of the stricter law would be a bonus.

Oh here’s the link to the report. I think it’s available for most major cities.

BTW You do realize the past BS the author Ms. Reeve has been involved with including fact checking a fantasy first person military account written by her husband? Where's Tammy Duckworth when you need her?
