I hope not!

A slippery slope indeed.

But isn't it slippery sneaking a political thread into the eso room?
i am not responsible for whatever tangents a thread veers off into once begun...but the thread was started to see if anyone could show me when a slippery slope indeed occurred.
as for the rest of your post-it only helps elevate this thread into exactly what you're complaining about in your last sentence.

Fair enough. Remember when seatbelt laws were just an add on ticket and not a primary reason for being pulled over?

yep.
but it's another excuse for a policeman to pull you over, in hopes of finding more than a seatbelt ticket. plus, it's a revenue generator, and local and state govs love revenue generators.

That still varies state to state:

http://www.ghsa.org/html/stateinfo/l...belt_laws.html

And there's a pretty clear difference between primary and secondary seatbelt laws in terms of death and injury:

http://www.nhtsa.gov/About+NHTSA/Tra...duces+Injuries

If I were a Second Amendment zealot, I'm not sure I'd bring up seatbelt laws, seeing as how they have clearly reduced the number of deaths and injuries by automobile, without having any noticeable effect on car ownership.

(Not saying you're a SA zealot, Dell, of course. Just saying I don't think it's one that helps the "slippery slope is a bad thing" argument).
