How does this even happen and where is the outrage?

Shouldn't each track be doing everything in their power to make sure even the most miniscule piece of equiptment is functioning properly? Since lives depend on it shouldn't they be held accountable?

We have the NY Times... do we really need **** like this happening? Another nail in the coffin?

When there's a problem instead of boo hooing cause said problem gets some press which in turn becomes fuel for PETA et al I think we need to step up and say hey this happened and this is what were doing about it.

Or

We will become the people we are portrayed as if we don't recognize how serious things like this are and act on them.

I would rather people scoff (not you guys... just for the record) and find it / me foolish any day of the week than to become blase and jaded and not have any reaction at all when things like tis happen.

We can keep right on wearing blinkers, living the bumpersticker mentality (**** happens), and continue shrugging our collective shoulders because we're so nonchalant or I don't know what OR we can be the ones to say no, fix this, this is unacceptable, this should never happen again cause once every few years is still too many times.

Had it been really tragic we'd be doing that now.

We can take it for a wake up call or we can do nothing.

I can live with the malfunction of the equipment. Stuff happens, what was unacceptable, was that they waited so long to stop the race. It should have been stopped as the were entering the far turn, not when they were turning for home. The sirens should have been sounded, to let everyone know, that there was something on the track. The stewards should be held accountable for this mess.

of course they keep their stuff working. have you ever had your car just inexplicably not start? i have, even tho it was perfectly fine all the way up to the point when it wasn't.

No offense, but consider me jaded and blase because I just can't muster any outrage for this.

In a game where we have no idea who is on the up and up, outrageous takeout rates, inconsistent stewards and a complete and total lack of respect for gamblers...yeah this is way down on the list of things to cause me outrage.

It was an unfortunate incident and I'm glad no one was really hurt, but stuff like this will and continue to happen. No amount of outrage on a message board no less, will change it.

There's not much they can do the way the track is designed.

What can be done to slowly eliminate the problem is to design tracks where the gate is slightly off the main course.

But that would cost money. And we all know money is the most important thing in this phony world where the owners and decision makers are much more comfortable lining their pockets, issuing a bland statement, and the f.uck ups roll on.

I'm pretty sure that I read Oaklawn now has a back up tractor that can pull both the gate and the broken tractor off the course should the primary tractor fail.

What is unbelievable is that apparently nobody near the announcer's booth was watching and able to give the announcer a heads up.
