They said the injury likely occurred a couple weeks ago when he stumbled, but wasn't he 'not quite right' earlier than that? Equibase has his last listed workout as 7/8 for 5f in 1:01 handily. Something just seems weird.
I guess it's helpful for them that he got the G1 win with that margin of victory earlier in the year. It's not like people would doubt his talent with the Derby/Preakness finishes, but his only other win is breaking his maiden. Given his ability it would've been a real shame if he hadn't gotten a graded win on his record. Of course, maybe if he hadn't they might've been more inclined to try to bring him back in the future. Who knows? The Empire Maker connection and the fact that his sire is now in Japan would've still been an issue.
