Obama is not renewing the Bush tax gift for income over $250,000. That is a loophole for the wealthy. Do you approve of closing it, or not?

250K is not wealthy. Make it an even buck and I am on board.

People who make $250,000 get the same tax breaks on their income as everyone else who makes less. The Dems want to renew that, the Republicans want to obstruct and raise those taxes.

We are discussing the extra tax break on income over $250,000. Do you think that gift, loophole, should continue, or be closed?

Reminder: we have a big debt, and that loophole has caused about 1/3 of it.

no? 250k isn't gates/buffett wealthy, but it's wealthy nonetheless. compare it to the average wage in this country, or the median if you wish. besides, they don't pay that higher amount on the whole 250k. i'd love to have that problem....working on it!

Biden made $379K last year, and he said he's middle-class.

So there you go.

So Romney goes on multiple TV stations, and outright refuses to answer the questions. I'm sorry - when you are asked if you committed a felony, you say NO.

This, after his campaign today hired two more good, experienced Washington Republican media guys to help him.

This guy is toast. I can't believe he's so incompetent to be mucking up his campaign over nothing.

Let's say you work in NYC, lots of people do that make over 250K. This family of 4 cannot afford to live in NYC so the move to Westchester, Rockland or NJ and commute. They also pay State (NY, NJ or both if you live in NJ) and NY city taxes on top of the highest federal tax rate. It costs anywhere from $350-$700 (that cannot be written off anymore) per month to take public transport from an outlying area to get to NYC. What are you left with? Middle class on a good day.
Wealthy is a lot more than 250K per year. If you live in Oklahoma, it is probably wealthy.

and, yet another reason why using a national average can be difficult. in most parts of the country, 250k would be considered well above middle class. where i live, that wage would be in the very top of the top 1% of the state. but then, a few years back, if you made over 60k a year, you were in the top 2% of wage earners in arkansas. obviously nyc is an extreme, which is why i said consider median income...and there are a lot of people trying to get by in nyc with a lot less than the money you referenced.

edit~~ just visited slate to see if there was anything new, and saw this:

at 2k a week, that's 104k per year. so, if that's the average for new york, one could safely assume that is the middle, right? which means 250k is far above that. perhaps upper middle class? or maybe lower upper class! at any rate, far above average.

Even here, if you live in Denver 250K is not a lot of $, certainly below wealthy. That NYC average has to be brought way down by the preponderance of service industry employees in the city. When I worked in Manhattan I had friends that shared a 450sq/ft apartment for too much money, way uptown (uptown = bad) just to not have to cross any bridge/tunnel to get home.
