I wasn't even thinking Ribot. I've read he was both UK and Italian bred, but he's probably Italian.

Ok, so assuming he's Italian, name the three best.

According to Ribot's Wiki, he was born at the English National Stud.

No idea.

However, I thought you'd be the only person interested to know that Salvator has been one of the all-time most successful thoroughbred names. There is...

* Salvator (foaled in 1872 in France) 7-for-7 lifetime and won six important stakes that are still run today including the French Derby and Grand Prix de Paris.

* Salvator (foaled in 1886 in California) 16-for-19 lifetime -- in US Racing Hall of Fame. Two-time Horse of the Year. Considered by some as the "horse of the century"

* Salvator (foaled in 1994 in Slovakia) Group 1 flat and hurdle winner in Czech Republic, Slovakia and Italy

Not to mention a Salvatore that is a multiple Group stakes winner in New Zeland in 2010. A Group 1 winner in Turkey in 2007. And a Group 1 winner in Chile in 1997.

Riveting, I know. http://www.pedigreequery.com/salvatore4

Vito is this eccentric Italian guy that pops in and out of Belmont Park. He owns his own farm that he trains off of and owns a renowned resturant on the Island. Quite the character.

My father is the only trainer listed in the entire Equibase database with the last name Salvatore.

His final year as a trainer was 1981: 51-8-6-14 (15.7% wins - 54.9% ITM)

He had a decorated training career that started when he bribed a guy to get a trainers license in 1976.

One of them is bound to win off the claim. When he won his one race he brought meatballs to all the clockers!
