I think Game of thrones and Sopranos are two of the best shows ever. I watch Trueblood. Treme. Boardwalk empire. And each one of those shows was much better after the first two episodes in my opinion. Believe me-i want to like this show. I really do. Its just not very good so far. The pacing is slow and the only character that is remotely interesting thus far is the Peruvian trainer. Of course i will watch it because I love the sport and I can halfway follow what is going on but so far its mediocre at best. |

Since we're talkng about TV I'll try to slip this in without getting smashed.
Smash. No not the Baffert horse. The new series on NBC. Did anybody watch it? What did you think? It was must see TV for me cuz I'm such an addict for Broadway musicals. Thought it was pretty good. Liked the character played by Megan Hilty. Have to admit I'm a bit biased though since I've seen her about 50,000 times as Glinda in Wicked. ![]() |

Episode 2 featured some terrific studies of horses in motion and close up. And I also enjoyed the scene at the Longshot among many others.

Wait for episode 4 in a 9 episode season? Why didn't they just make two movies for HBO instead?
And let me remind those who think getting a 2nd season with HBO somehow means the show is successful...this is the same channel that gave How to Make It In America a second season. Now the fat guy on oxygen...can anyone hear the noise those oxygen tanks make with surround sound? I watched it on the laptop and didn't notice. It's just a pet peeve I have. Those tanks are annoying to hear and to sacrifice accuracy is as well. It's just a shi.itty god awful character. And the punchy one that looks like Tim McManus...why didn't they kill him in episode 2? Why waste a significant crime that early in the season? I don't give a s.hit. Kill the guy. Kill him dead. Instead it was a cheesy as hell wgas moment. Really don't like the show. Sucks. Sucks. Sucks. |

I am enjoying pretty much all the characters. Kevin done for example and his ball breaking of the other degenrates is making me laugh. I am also intrigued with upcoming characters, like Mike that Ace mentioned. I am guessing perhaps Michael Gambon may be portraying Mike, and he is a very talented actor in my opinion. I am pretty sure we're gonna see him this week in episode 3. Nolte's character Mr. Smith has this promising horse, and he's tabbed Gary Steven's jockey character to ride him, we know that character's got issues, so this big race upcoming in episode 4 is peaking my interest as well. I thought John Perrotta's writing was very good, between him and Milch we have some good unfolding storylines here folks, the wife and I are hooked and we think Luck is terrific. My wife is not really a racing fan, but she is into this and perhaps it will peak her interest in the game too, and that would be wonderful. As i am sure is is drawing other new fans to racing, which is very good as well.

Yes I did talk about the characters, directly after asking you for an example of the pacing of the show being bad. Which you have yet to sight? I was pointing out in terms of the characters, I find more than 1 character interesting is all. We can agree to disagree.

I'm actually getting into the character development now, but I don't get the Dustin Hoffman character and his interplay with Farina. He seems to spend the entire time he's on screen gazing into space with a "thousand-mile" stare. I don't get his part of the story.
Will probably stay with it for a few more episodes; I hear it gets better. The pace and sound in the third episode were much improved. Ocala Mike |

I don't really have any problem with the show, other than the Hoffman storyline. The rest is fine.
Hoffman was a tremendous actor in his day--a day which included the likes of Deniro, Pacino, Nicholson and Hackman, all of whom were incredible in their prime. But none of them have done much of anything of note in 15 to 20 years. Hoffman is flat-out embarrassing in this role. I have no problem understanding Nolte's dialogue, to the extent I think it is meant to be understood, so I don't know what you you guys are talking about. Turn on the closed captioning if you have an issue (that's what I had to do for my wife for the UK version of Life on Mars). |
