The sad part about this stupid system is that if you switched the two games around, if Bama had dominated the first one 21-0 and LSU had snuck by 9-6 in overtime Monday, the Tigers would be champs now. I'm to the point now where I'd rather go back to what we had prior to the BCS if they are not going to have a playoff.

I'm not sure that is true. I think it would have been a split vote and the debate for a playoff would have really intensified.

There is no way there would be a rematch if the regular season game was 21-0. Ok St. would have been in the game at that point. The outcry would be loud and clear from the public (as well as the voters) that wouldn't want to see a rematch of a 21-0 game.

Never even gave that premise a thought. My thinking was that if Bama spanked them 21-0 at home the first time and then lost a 9-6 game in where they missed 4 fg's, the voters wouldn't have had LSU as the clear cut champions.

I think it would have been had Bama won the first game. I don't think LSU would have fallen below second.

If it was 21-0 as the scenario was presented, no way there is a rematch.

i agree. the loser would have fallen to far, for things to work out right and them climb back in it.
just remember this year wasn't Bama's fault. the system worked in their favor. everyone in front of them lost AFTER Bama lost.

And THAT is the real issue here. When you lose is more important than anything. How long till teams start stacking games so that thetough ones are early and last few games of the year are cupcakes? With so many out of conference rivalries ending are we looking forward to Texas versus North Texas or Texas A&M versus Sam Houston State on Thanksgiving night? Isn't it bad enough that 25% of Alabama's schedule is cupcakes (Kent state, N Texas and Ga Southern-who incidentally scored the most points against them all year lol)

And I dont mean to pick on Alabama but like Darren said they were lucky to benefit from the system AND I'm pretty sure that they are the best team in the country. In a playoff system they wouldnt be penalized for a kicker having a bad day (Boise too) and would have an opportunity to win the thing on the field and get the props that they deserve. Instead of talking about this crap we would be talking about the unbelievable defense. Take a cupcake off the schedule, play the other crappy bowls (the idea that a 4 or 8 team playoff would make the other bowls more meaningless than they already are is stupid), figure out a way to work around the NFL playoffs and rake in the money.

If LSU had played that poorly in a regular season game they would have dropped 4 or 5 spots. Alabama's defense was really impressive but only the biggest SEC homers could excuse that showing.

The idea that the system "worked" is like crowing after finishing 3rd and 4th in a race and having a double DQ move you up. The BCS simply got lucky that a plane crashed.
