Running back is turning into a meaningless position in pro football.

The rules have made it so. Nothing has changed rule wise to benefit them.

The QB's might as well as be two hand touch. The WR's -- all of a sudden -- can't even have defenders breathing on them. And they are protected by an absurd "defenseless reciever" when they do try and catch.

This is why you have to start drafting WR's in the first round -- and why no Non-Alabama Tide RB's go in the first round anymore.

All of a sudden, even Heyward-Bay looks like a great draft pick.

When healthy its Mcfadden, its not really close.

The numbers do prove out, the #1 rusher in the league was on a 4-12 team and the #1 rushing team in the league squeaked into the playoffs.

The NFL is becoming much more pass happy but I wouldn't be so hasty to write off running the football as meaningless. In their playoff run last year the Packers had sizable advantages in rushing in each game with the exception of the Super Bowl (where they were +3 in TOs). Maintaining some balance is always going to be important.

McFadden is a cripple, and he's not as good as MJD, Rice, or even Foster when he's healthy.

Not meaningless at all, imperative I think, just not as important as it once was.
