![]() just entered ga, heading to savannah via andersonville and kennesaw.
went to chickamauga/chattanooga battlefield, lookout mountain yesterday. amazing views from lookout. the extensive gun collection at c/c was amazing. a couple of them are the only known to exist. battlefield is extensive, the first one dedicated. the veterans from both sides had a lot of input in sharing information and in the placing of monuments, etc. had it not been for thomas, the rock of chicamauga, the next year and a half would have been very much altered, that much more difficult.

![]() the walk to the top of kennesaw was a chore, but the views made it worthwhile...tony, however, might disagree! atlanta was 26 miles away, but those buildings were easily seen. can't imagine making that climb in midsummer while clad in wool jacket and pants, carrying a pack, musket, etc.
ate dinner in macon, headed to savannah. spent too long at kennesaw to make andersonville.

![]() stopped at fort jackson, and then fort pulaski. tbe latter fort was named for casimir pulaski, a polish count who fought against the brits in the american revolution. the first place lee was assigned after graduating from west point, he elected the site and designed the layout, drainage, etc. got some great
pics of the outer walls, some still have shells embedded from the union bombardment. the supposed impregnable fort was surrendered after thirty hours of shelling. rifled cannon proved the age of brick and mortar forts obsolete. although the fall of the fort didnt lead to the fall of savannah, it did blockade a southern port. on to tybee island.
