Olympic Charmer (107 Beyer sprinting at Santa Anita) earned the highest figure of any 2-year-old - from either sex - in the year 1998 by two full points.

She is the dam of the Ron McAnally trained first-time starter who was 2nd at 34/1 odds in a 2yo MSW race at Del Mar yesterday.

The immortal Cho won that race

The John Sadler half-sister to Dream Rush in that race was supposed to be all the rage. She didn't hit the board. But it's Polytrack so who knows how "real" any of the maiden races at Del Mar are. The winner was by Silent Name and the runner-up was by Dansili.

Drill was supposed to be a killer first time out, too, but he tanked, then came right back and won (be a desperate nose) at least.

I didn't like that Sadler horse at all for a win-early bet.

She went only 10.40 for an 1/8th and was blinkered on a day when the track was much faster of the two sessions down there.

3 different horses went 9.80 that day -- including one sired by Bob and John (go figure)

I liked a Lawyer Ron that went 10 flat unblinkered that day -- they named Stealcase. Horse took a lot of money for Casse in his debut at Saratoga but was a soundly beaten 3rd. Got sucked right into that one.

Regarding OBS March -- I would say the track was 0.30 seconds faster going 1/8th for Session #2 and about 0.60 seconds faster going 1/4 mile for Session #2.

I see that the OBS horses breeze on an all-weather surface, so I guess Eillien's Dream has less of an excuse for her debut.

The surface may also help explain why so many on your 2yo sales list end up at Woodbine. What proportion of your list comes from OBS and Keeneland?

Synthetic: (9 sessions between 4 sales)

OBS March, April, June and Keeneland April

Dirt: (6 sessions between 5 different sales)

FT Florida, Ft Texas, FT Timonium, and the two Barrett's sales.

So -- roughly 60% on synthetic.

I suppose that's another good reason why a surprising many have gone to Woodbine. However, it's been synthetic for a couple of years now...and the Woodbine purses were huge last two years as well I think. I have to think the stronger Canadian dollar is the only real change from this year to last.
