So asking someone to contribute an extremely small portion of their income to a pension is unreasonable? If contributing 5.8% of my salary to my own pension improved my working conditions and allowed my company to rehire fellow workers I would see no issue in it.

Personally I believe the survey was rigged by the union to make the teachers look bad. Some teachers even called in to local radio stations prior to the survey and stated this was going to happen. The union comes out of this looking good and the teachers are to blame.
