For those that are actually interested in what goes on in racing, Bret Calhoun was on ATR today and talked about Canigotoo. Pretty funny story as owners Durant and Jordan had visited the late L T Smith's farm to purchase a different horse, and the Widow Smith said she's make the deal if they took the Menhal colt as well. They did, and he thereby earned the name 'Canigotoo'. Owners want to go to Saratoga for the Hopeful, but Calhoun is thinking along more conservative lines. They will pay the $6k though and make him BC eligible.

That Beyers are far more subjective than people think and to question them doesn't make you an ahole anymore than anyone who blindly believes every number they read....Ala, the ridiculous figs given in some of the synthetic races that depended much more on the competition, level of the race, or name of horse in the race, Zenyatta, than actually any times....it has been discussed by many other than me, many a time on this here website. Nothing snide involved. But questioning the 100 in the other thread brought out the haters so I have to keep it real. For s.hit's sake.

I saw a tweet a couple of days ago that the Beyer was downgraded to a 96. The original fig was 98.

Canigotoo will never win a race outside of the state of Texas.

It is amazing how some of these horses find their way to the races...

Presque Isle Downs was so thankful to Calhoun for sending two horses up for the two 100K stakes this week - that they were going to give him 20% off his dinner.

The clubhouse manager was so embarassed when they told her - that she just went ahead and comped the dinner outright.

I'd bet against that. He can certainly win a race in Louisiana, Oklahoma, or New Mexico.

There are few non-state bred stakes in those states

There are plenty of open company stakes at Remington for 2YOs (3 altogether) and there's another at Zia Park at 6 furlongs, Louisiana Downs only has them on turf as does Evangeline but Delta has some pretty nice open company 2YO races in the fall.

What kind of odds will you give me on that. Calhoun is a very good trainer that is underated imo. Canigotoo will win in the fall at other tracks, not saying it will be in the BC though, but you never know. It will be interesting to see.

If the horse were with Baffert,Pletcher,or a few other national trainers, people would be raving about him.

How many of them other than the Zia park race are sprinting?

Aren't you supposed to give me odds?

Two of the three at Remington are sprinting. One at Delta is 7fs around the bullring.

Do you have something against Bret Calhoun?

Why would I have something against Bret Calhoun? I think he is a good trainer and a good guy.

But I dont think this horse is a future star

I was mainly breaking your balls and could have used an emoticon but I opted against it. Just knowing Calhoun in a minor way I didn't think you'd have an issue with him.

I agree that he's likely not a future star but I'm sure they can win a couple of races and make a little bit of money with the horse.

Chuck has a good point based on Shocktime's awful showing in the Debutant Saturday... Had spun a 13 length win at LS in the TTAS Futurity (83 fig) and faded badly as second choice in the 2yo G3.
