Guessing is a far cry from proving, Joe Pa's record stands on it's own...notice he's not on the highest paid list....

Joe is a legend and my favorite obviously. But it is beyond silly to think nothing ever illegal went on at PSU in his 60 years there. Or to think that every kid he recruited was pristine.

College athletics and the NCAA are so broken beyond repair in general. It's mostly the NCAA. There really should be no rules on monetary gains by athletes at all. I think any school booster should be allowed to pay any athlete as much as they want, as long as the alumni in question isn't an employee of the university. I think any athlete should be allowed to be paid by an agent for his entire stay in college if he chooses. I think any athlete should be allowed to sell or trade any crap they received from the school for whatever service they desire as long as it's legal, be it tattoos, cars, stereos etc. Whatever free crap they received is now "theirs". They should be allowed to work wherever the heck they want to make extra money. The only rules that should apply is that they are academically eligible. Of course that is another monster on it's own how that is achieved!!

Of course none of this will ever happen as we truly hate freedom in this country and in other countries as well as we are truly afraid of what freedom actually will bring. The athlete should get the scholarship from the school and that's it. Whatever else they get from non-employees of the university should be open and allowed with no punishment from the NCAA. Let the crap go and let it run it's course. See what happens.

Garbage post! We already have this in place its called pro sports. College athletes get a free education. Rules are in place to prohibit the richest schools from buying all the best players. I'm sick and tired of people saying college athletes should get paid. College is for education. Don't like it then don't go. As for Penn State, they may have had some issues with drinking and fighting over the years but they have been very clean in Joe's years.

I agree that college is for education but some degree of fairness would be nice...how can you justify colleges getting rich off the exploits of athletes while denying them basic freedoms?

Crap, I never once in my post said the school should pay the athlete. In fact I specified all the school should give out is the scholarship. I simply said that if an athlete wants to make money off of non-university people he should be allowed to do that. Have you ever heard of co-op programs at university's for college students?? Would I as a college student ever have gotten in trouble for selling a pair of my worn out shoes for 10 bucks if I desired? could I work in the college cafeteria to make extra bucks if I desired to make extra bucks?? So why can't a college football player accept money from an agent while in college?? It's a load of crap all of the NCAA rules.

And as for Joe, he's the best, but to think no football player was ever on the "take" at PSU is naive beyond comprehension.

And the don't like it don't go doesn't really work in major sports outside of baseball now. They used to let high school players in the NBA...no longer. So they pretty much have to go in both basketball now at least for a year and in football too. Until they get a system like minor league baseball in the NFL and NBA those options don't exist unfortunately. IF they did, I'd agree with you on the don't like it don't go proclamation.

It is the price the athletes pay for a free education. I got paid some for college bball and was very grateful. If they are good enough they make there money in the pros. If not they got a degree and have no loans to pay back. With the price of college today I think that is a great reward.

Problem with this is you can't control it. Where is the cut-off. Again the rules are in place to keep an equal playing field. I went to Penn State and know athletes have been giving money or various perks. Difference is Joe dealt with it swift and has many people watching over this. Remember Curtis Enis? Was given a free suit and was thrown off the team. Joe is a dying breed of coaches. It is a shame cause Tressel was a good coach and still could have won if he was more diligent.

There is no cut off. As long as university people aren't paying the athletes let everything else go. Try to enforce some sort of academic integrity in having stricter ineligibility standards. IF some alum wants to give a kid a thousand bucks to buy food or fly home who gives a crap. Yeah, this would be corrupted beyond belief I guess if the university is the one paying in the end. But an agent paying a superstar...who cares?? Why can't a kid earn money while in college?? HOnestly what would change?? Like the SEC still wouldn't dominate the playing field in football? Like Kentucky still wouldn't be good with Calipari in B-Ball?

You are exposing your pea brain.

College players already are pros by the $100,000 plus scholarships they get when committing to a school.

It's only part of the sellout.

You fool....big time college athletics are merely for players to get ready for the NFL and so their employers can make more millions.Education has nothing to do with anything.

Does he need an appointment or can he show up anytime? Seriously though, posting your address on the net is somewhat dangerous, especially in this messed up world.
