Parents need to suck it up and take on the responsibility for raising and feeding their own kids. Let the schools concentrate on teaching. If you can't take on the responsibility then stop having f'n kids!!!! Government should reward responsible parents, not supplement and support irresponsible ones. Take away government incentives for having multiple children and watch how everything from schools to the economy improves dramatically.

In the meantime, what do we do for these poor kids?

The kids who show with no lunches get fed.

The kids that have parents who want to send them with food from home are allowed to eat it. Ultimately parents and not the teacher/principal will make the call.

the schools here started giving free lunches to everyone a few years back. they felt that some were feeling stigmatized by having to fill out forms-so they just opened the program to everyone. that i agreed with; there are too many kids who depend on school breakfast and lunch as their only decent meals of the day.
however, i don't agree with banning lunches from home. i'm sure that has more to do with putting $$ in the program, and less to do with nutritional concerns.

Agreed! Some local school boards come up with ill conceived plans still.
