Default Gio Ponti a sweaty mess...

Some horses are always sweaty, and others who have seen Gio Ponti on a more regular basis have said he isn't one of those (I can't fully confirm that).

What was strange about his appearance this morning is that he did as much work, if not less, than others on the track at Meydan and still came off dripping. There wasn't another foreign runner who looked as gassed as Gio Ponti. It was about 70 degrees this morning and he galloped about 1.5 laps of the 9 furlong track in an easy way. Pictures included in the post...

Also - video of Sweet Ducky's new trainer commenting on his thoughts post-ship...

Pat, do you know if Buffum is running in the UAE Derby? If not, Godolphin shipped him over there for nothing, lol. Thanks!

He is not slated to run there. The likely fields can be found here.

I'm waiting for the quote from Gio Ponti on how Pat looked after his track work this morning.

Instead of telling us what horses typically look like when they FIRST ship into racing "Black Hole", he compares a newbie to horses there for months...THX. He tells us that Gio Pionti, a horse I never liked even a little. is washed up. You should have seen him after the deluge in the Turf Classic, Pat!

I have always like this horse, and after reading this

I was hoping for more good signs. Will be watching and waiting for an update.

For the purposes of clarification, I will respond to Freddymo. I compared my observation of Gio Ponti to any others who shipped in within the last week. While Raihana has been here for months (something I obviously know), comparing Gio Ponti to Buena Vista, Victoire Pisa, Kinsale King, Fly Down, Stradavinsky, Quick Enough...to me, there was no comparison. He looked hot and worn down after doing very little. That's my opinion, I've been wrong before, it'll happen again. While I don't see Gio Ponti every morning, hence my disclaimer, I am of the opinion that he looked less than acclimated and unusually spent after doing work no harder than many others, which included horses who shipped on the same plane as he.

IIRC, Gio Ponti was really washed out in the post parade for his 5yo debut last year at Tampa (he lost by a nose I think).

I was on track at 615am, basically, when the sun was just coming up, and did not see him today. Stradavinsky worked though and it was status quo - he's coming in fine.

Thanks! I thought he ran pretty well in the UAE Guineas, but Godolphin seemed rather blah about it. I suppose he'll hang out in Dubai until he's sent back to Albertrani in the next month or so

The first five races of the day (four t-breds) have been drawn already. The entries are located at http://www.emiratesracing.com.

Go here to get the DubaiRaceNight.com morning line (as I think it should be, at least).

Talked to Ramon today both on and off camera - video is posted at http://www.dubairacenight.com

Really get the impression he likes IWR a bunch more than Gio Ponti. IWR has been working at literally, 4:45am and Marcus Hersh is all about him, thinks its a great sign. I think he has a great chance - but the race could be ripe for an upset from the 1 or 12.
