I just looked up the chart for race 3 at SA yesterday, and as strange as it is that the trifecta was not cancelled on a three horse field, to me it's stranger still that a $1 tri paid $1.50 when the race finished in odds order.

A 50% yield on the most popular combination, and with no extra runners in the race?

What am I missing? Did many people make the point to put the longshot first in their combo due to the short field?

The payoff was identical also to the exacta.

The amazing thing was that there was enough money in the pools to result in an efficient outcome.

Not trying to be dense here, I just never saw this before.

I thought they would have just called off the tri and refunded all tri players' tickets.
