The devil lives, and I sometimes think HE is winning the battle between good and evil.

I've never followed Sarah Palin around like she's some kind of know all, be all, end all solution to the country's political ills. But, I certainly don't think she meant her crosshairs image to mean death to those with whom she disagreed. How much hatred and vitriol has been heaped on her and her family?!~

Do I think such visual images or political rhetoric cause the actions of nutcases like this most recent one? Absolutely not. These people are so wrapped up in their own agenda, they don't care what anyone else says - not even the people who agree with them. They want the last word, they want the spotlight shone on them. This guy's bolt needed tightening on a daily basis. This guy sent out all kinds of warning signals, yet no one intervened. Our laws protect people like this. They're given a pass until they do something illegal. YET, people want to muzzle the media and take away free speech. I can't comprehend the double standard.

By far, nothing comes close to the hatred, vitriol, and violence of those times - the 60's. Perhaps the lessons learned have been forgotten.

Ah, yes, freedom of speech is very much not in favor by some here at DT.

Oh, only the extremes count? How about someone calling you nuts for your opinion? Yeah, that's freedom of speech, as well. I know, I get it. But, I'm not calling anyone nuts for disagreeing with me.

How many people ask "WHY" when something like this happens? That's how I explain it to myself.

This is not about ME, however. Prayers for Rep. Giffords.

you're bothered because someone used the phrase 'that's nuts'? how is them saying that an infringement of freedom of speech anyway?

Who said anything about freedom of speech? You exercised your right by saying you believe in the devil, and I exercised mine by saying you're full of s.hit. What's the problem.

You have selective reading problems. I already said that you had the right to disagree with me. However, calling someone nuts of FoS because you disagree with them is definitely devil rhetoric.

Danzig already pointed out how ludicrous your statement was here, but seriously....what the hell are you talking about? The first amendment right to "freedom of speech" protects citizens from the government depriving a citizen of the right of "freedom of speech." Do you actually think it also protects you from being called crazy because of something you posted on a horse racing message board? You don't really think that....do you?

Like most people I have no freaking idea what motivated the shooter. It might be worth considering however that when you get to the fringes of the anti-government movement, the line between "left-wing" and "right-wing" get rather blurry. Radicals often move pretty fluidly from hardcore marxism (the "left") to hardcore anarchism (the "right") in their attempts to bring down the government (or whatever their personal motive might be). Labels are therefore often inaccurate or misleading, and in my opinion make it even more ridiculous for anyone on either side to try to score cheap partisan political points off of the incident.

Politicizing this is simply a joke. People died at the hands of a gutless nut!
He is another example of a person who probably received a large amount of undeserved self-esteem builders. This guy had red flags all over him as he could not cope with life in general. Hopefully, justice will give this man what he really needs. My thoughts are with the families of the innocent victims in this tragedy.

Oh, please - I thought the eyeroll icon was being overused, but I see I should have included it in my response. Sure people are free to say what they wish. I would think, however, that a difference of opinion would be followed by civil discourse rather than labeling someone nuts or full of it because they have a differing opinion - even on a horse racing board.

It's high time to quell the hateful violent rhetoric. Let's start at the top.

Quote:
"I think it's tempting not to negotiate with hostage takers, unless the hostage gets harmed. In this case the hostage is the American people and I was not willing to see them get harmed," Obama on keeping taxes from increasing, December 6, 2010

"A Republican majority in Congress would mean "hand-to-hand combat" on Capitol Hill for the next two years, threatening policies Democrats have enacted to stabilize the economy," Obama, October 6, 2010

“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” Obama in July 2008

"Here's the problem: It's almost like they've got -- they've got a bomb strapped to them and they've got their hand on the trigger. You don't want them to blow up. But you've got to kind of talk them, ease that finger off the trigger." Obama on banks, March 2009

"I want you to argue with them and get in their face!" Barack Obama, September 2008

“We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us.” Obama to Latinos, October 2010

I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!” Obama on ACORN Mobs, March 2010

“We talk to these folks… so I know whose ass to kick.“ Obama on the private sector, June 2010
