Now I know why the Haskell is such a drag on Monmouth's meet, being run on a Sunday.

If they had only moved it to Saturday, New Jersey racing might have been saved!

Considering the Jim Dandy is run on a Saturday, at an easily more followed meet, it makes sense the Haskell is on a Sunday.

Wow, have you got cause and effect confused.

Not that it's really relevant, but I think the Jim Dandy was run on a Sunday until recently.

I might be mistaken but I thought the Haskell was run on Sundays because the Hambletonian was generally run on the Saturday before.

Whether that's the case or not the point of this whole thing is being missed. The point is there's not as much money in simulcast pools nationwide on Sundays. Can Gulfstream have a really good day with the Fla Derby being on a Sunday? Sure. Will they be up 200-300% over the same day in 2010? Absolutely. Is there any chance they'll handle more on a Sunday than Saturday or even close to the 2010 number? None whatsoever.

It might not change the fan experience, but the handle on their biggest day is going to be down and it's going to be because they chose to run it on a day of the week where less money gets wagered.

Depends on how you define recent. I am almost positive it has been on a Saturday for the best part of the last decade, and at least the last four years. Jocks were always riding at Spa on Saturday and heading to MTH on Sunday.
