Video: Mine That Bird’s retirement ceremony
http://blogs.courier-journal.com/rac...ment-ceremony/ He looks very fit and ready to go. We watched him leaving the Paddock at the BC, and were struck by how good he appeared, and for a brief moment thought he might show some spark. I hope he eventually finds his way to the KHP. So long, MTB. |

He was great in the Derby and then the mysteries of horses prevailed .

He ran a tremendous Derby, a very respectable 2nd to Rachel in the Preakness (a very exciting race), and was a very close 3rd to Dunkirk in the Belmont. Fair to say that had he not been a gelding he may have been retired to stud at 3, and would have garnered more respect and been held in higher esteem, but such was not his fortune. Each time I looked forward to his races this year was ultimately a disappointment. But to watch him in the paddock and in training you'd never know it.
Ain't it the truth. I just feel he has more to offer in some capacity, and hope he gets a chance to shine again. Last edited by OldDog : 12-02-2010 at 03:04 PM. |

Great Derby run and one I'll always remember. From last to first, on the rail, in the mud... great stuff.

He had a better career than the last Derby winner.

I think people are underestimating just how bad D Wayne Lukas is.
Give him to Chip Wooley and I believe he would start hitting the board again in dirt races. But the owners are too blind to see the negative Lukas factor. |

Funny Cide went to Woodbine, too, where this horse won several races at 2. |

Chip Wooley is a positive factor? He was an okay 2 year old on synth that got pretty good for about 5 weeks as a 3 year old. He was never going to get back to that form. His owners were a bit overzealous with his placings this year and were too stubborn to run him where he belongs. Lukas is a shell of his former self, but give me a break with some of this. |

He was very good in the Preakness and OK in the Belmont as well.

![]() I have to thank you cause I really did want to see this but then got busy, too lazy to look for it, all kinds of excuses. This horse... it's funny cause I wasn't a fan or anything and sure as hell didn't have him in the Derby but the more time that goes by... he just has this endearing quality. I wish him a long, happy and healthy life and yes I agree I hope he ends up there. |

Canonero II. Imagine his odds coming in from Venezuela had he not been part of the mutual field.
