I thought Forbes did a horrible job repping the interests of the horseman. I adore MP and had countless wonderful experiences at the Big M BUT the only thing that Horseman seem to ALWAYS agree about is why they need there sport subsidized by other people. Your theory that the industry does support itself in reality because of all the ancillary business it forsters is quite the stretch and Satish did all he would not to completely disagree with your premise.. All business promote by product business. Again, horseman come to the table crying about why they should get money for there sport. Remember I love MP and would hate to see it go but unless the product can stand on its own shouldnt we consider LESS TRACKS and LESS RACING. Can't we ship the good ones to NY and the crappy ones to Parx/Penn? Can't the grooms and trainers move? Cant the hay truck drive an hour north or south?

So far every single time that closing a venue has been suggested you have come out against the concept save the Meadowlands TB meet.. For a guy who believes that the future is less racing and fewer tracks it doesnt seem that you are able to pull the trigger when its proposed.. BTW I know the NJSEA is trying to f things up and its complete BS..YET NYRA and there mega purses will be happy with the added stock and gamblers will be happier with bigger fields.. Obviously some horseman dyed in NJ racing would need to adjust.
As much as I would hate it the racing world doesnt need MP..

Would you be happy with only three circuits in the US? Presumably NYRA, Santa Anita and Churchill. Maybe throw in Gulfstream and/or Arlington (take your pick)?. Because that's what I get from your post. I love horse racing as a whole, but a big part of the appeal to me is I can get from my couch to the MP paddock in 10 minutes. If they kill it I'm not sure how much interest I'd have in the rest of the HR world. Sorry, I'm rambling out of frustration.

Like you I live near MP, like you I love it.. There arent horses around if the purses aren't going to be very high because NYRA is going to be vlt fueled and Parx/Penn as well. So if MP doesnt have that going for it why should they be opened? Unfortunately racing in many a state are sucking on the teets of slots and when that teet runs dry its over! Then what?

God, this is totally valid and damned depressing! See you around the paddock hopefully. Definitely going Sunday just in case it's the last time I can... Then I'll chain myself to a fence.
