Cigar's trainer Alex Hassinger was so deathly affraid of top dirt horses like Prarie Bayou and Sea Hero that he moved him to the turf - where he floundered for the next two years.

It was a very weak crop. That was my first Belmont Stakes and PB broke down on the backstretch. That was also the 2nd unfortunate breakdown of that Triple Crown because Union City broke down in the Preakness.
