Correct. Not exactly a strong crop - Cigar broke his maiden sprinting on dirt with a huge figure while Prairie Bayou reigned as king of that divison. Cigar's trainer Alex Hassinger was so deathly affraid of top dirt horses like Prarie Bayou and Sea Hero that he moved him to the turf - where he floundered for the next two years.

It was a very weak crop. That was my first Belmont Stakes and PB broke down on the backstretch. That was also the 2nd unfortunate breakdown of that Triple Crown because Union City broke down in the Preakness.

I have the program somewhere because I think Strike the Gold ran for the last time that day.

A little bit of Louisianna Lightening - this 2yo sprinter took a Grade 2 stake in South Florida next time out over a good field that included a future Breeders Cup Classic winner.

Name him.

Bet something...I just remember a crazy duel in that Hutcheson.

Bet Me Best?

The Indomitable DrugS 11-10-2010 10:00 PM

Correct

The Indomitable DrugS 11-10-2010 10:09 PM

If ESPN did a 30 for 30 show on this horse - it would probably be called 'The Best Claim That Never Was' His 7f loss at GP came to a future sire of a Kentucky Derby winner. He got hurt after his final romping win. Never ran again.

Name him.

The Indomitable DrugS 11-10-2010 10:19 PM

An easier one ... I bet this Nick Zito trained horse to win the Ky Derby next time out ... he finished 14th.

Name him.

Name him.

He might have been the best sire from that class, in the end.

Long live the Galleryfurniture.com Stakes, and Bowl, and whatever else they sponsored. Remember the good ol' days of .com's owning the world?

This daughter of A. P. Indy was a great looking debut winner on the lawn. She took her Graded Stakes debut over a strong field that included Voodoo Dancer and Wonder Again. She's also now the broodmare of an impressive debut winner from a few weeks ago.

Name her.

Yeah - it thankfully didn't last.

They've had so many different names for that stakes race. The Spiral, The Jim Beam, The Lane's End, The Gallery Furniture.com, etc etc.

That's not it at all.

Everyone and their mother figured Cigar was destined to be a better turf horse, with that breeding.

You knew that though.
