"He is alive and doing as well as we could have hoped. He is actually bearing weight on that foot now so his chances of survival have improved markedly. Luckily it is only one foot that has been affected and he has made good progress.
"He will obviously never race again but owes nobody anything and was a great ambassador for the yard and whole team. It is a real shame he will not be able to try and go one better in the 2011 World Cup but such is racing. Fingers crossed he will at least be able to enjoy retirement and he is such a fighter, as he showed on the track. "I will be in Dubai at the end of next week to see how he is and obviously he will be given every chance to recover. We will do all we can and the prognosis has certainly improved." ~ Mike de Kock
