Default NYRA Stakes

They would have only had 5 Horses entered anyway. Unfortunately our great game of horse racing is "DYING"

I'm about the biggest NYRA basher around and even I see they have thier hands tied here. I say we enjoy the great meets at Saratoga, Delmar and Monmouth and wahtever happens in the fall we deal with it at that point.

Don't tell that to the brilliant core of racing writers - a good many of them are incapable of writing anything that isn't positive about our horses, our trainers, and most of all our racing.

Given the way horses, and 2YOs included, are campaigned nowadays, the Matron/Futurity were cannibalizing the Champagne and Frizette. Now, with the BC on dirt, the Champagne and Frizette should have more prominent fields. The last time the BC was held on dirt the BC Juv Fillies and Juvenile winners made their final preps in the Champagne and Frizette.

The Jerome was axed (which might cause Godolphin to disband) because the Kelso was switched to dirt. The Stuyvesant was a race that was out of place because by that time of year if you have a good 3YO he should either be in the BC, Cigar Mile or Clark.

Here's a suggestion for NYRA.

LIMIT the number of turf races to TWO per day, at BEL and SAR. That way, whenever it rains, rather than taking races off, selectively or otherwise, for 2 or 3 weeks AFTER the fact, they can just run ONE race on each of the turf courses PER DAY, and go on with it. The idea is to pick winners, not try to handicapping WHICH races NYRA will take off the turf on a given day. This goes a long way towards 'respecting' both trainers/owners and handicappers.

YEAH, I realize they didn't lose too many this year at the BEL meet but this was due to, essentially, a DROUGHT.

I was genuinely thanking you!

Maybe I'm facetious too often around here.

How does the Kelso keep it's G2 Rating when it gets switched from the turf to the dirt?

What was the reasoning behind moving the Kelso to the dirt? If there is a glaring need for a NYRA prep for the BC Dirt Mile, then the Vosburgh could have been moved back to 7 panels and serve as a prep for the Dirt Sprint and Mile. Even though the Kelso had competition from the Shadwell Mile at Keeneland, the Kelso remained an attractive stakes race.

It will be interesting to see how much competition the Kelso will get from the $300k Monmouth Cup run six days later over 9 furlongs.

Remind me, who ran in the Kelso last year? Was it Goldikova or Paco Boy...I'm a little fuzzy.
