![]() Let's temper it a bit then. How about we card only 5F or greater races for 2 year olds. I don't have a problem with 2 year olds running in general. I do have a problem when they run 2F, 4F and 4.5F. These races are a ****in' joke. You have racing secretaries that never bother to mix their distances (5f, 5.5f. 6f, 6.5f, 7f, in the sprints, for example) yet they card these sham races.
If they can't get 5F, they should be racing against poodles. NYRA, at least, to their credit, get this part right. |

A lot more than 15. But your point is well taken: run them when they can't get a reasonable distance so that the owners get hooked even more. Why keep them in the barn or on the farm and let them develop to the point when they can actually compete as horses? ![]() |

And yes owners get "hooked" on running horses 4 1/2 furlongs. Turns them into zombies that just start spending more and more. There are few things in this sport, which is full of bad ideas, that is more idiotic or disproven than the idea that horses shouldnt compete as 2 year olds. |

![]() Why run them longer than they are ready to go? In april they are ready to go 4 1/2. I have no defense of the 2 furlong races.

![]() How would you card mdn special races when there are only a handful, and thats not really an exaggeration, of owners buying reasonable priced horses and sending them to socal?
They would ALWAYS run a straight mdn three year old race the first day, then a filly race thurs-fri, and then one each over the weekend. These races would raw well the first week. You would have your top flight owners, Paulson, Lewis, Harbor View, Moss, etc etc, then the rest would be made up of smaller barn owners who had maybe 5-10 horses but a few decent bred. Now the big owners are all dead, money dont go to socal anymore. The middle guy is extinct out there.
