Man O' War would have won the triple crown in my estimate had he run in all three triple crown races.
who's #4?

can't argue with the three listed, that's for sure.

i'd add northern dancer and riva ridge.
absolutely agree that man o'war most likely was a winner had he run in the derby.

as for afleet alex, he was no superhorse.

Charismatic. I honestly believe he wins if he doesn't get hurt. It's odd that his name doesn't come up that often when talking TC near misses, he had a legit excuse.

He was a beautiful horse, but man, that crop sucked. He really wasn't that great a runner.

I agree with your statement wholeheartedly. I don't believe comparatively he may stack up talent wise to most of the other near missers, but I think he should have won the TC.

i liked Afleet Alex. he might not have been a "super horse" but as he matured he was going to be awful tough to beat. his Belmont may have been more impressive than his Preakness. by Belmont history, the only final split faster than AA was Secretariat. AA won by 10? or more?

Agreed, and I'm glad you brought him up.

Still is, standing stud in Aomori, Japan.

ESPN is supposed to feature Charismatic, and by extension I'm sure -- Chris Antley -- on one of their "30 for 30" shows this year, but they haven't yet set a date for it.

i disagree, his win in the preakness was remarkable. his belmont was a jog and the hopeful was one of the best 2 year old races you will ever see. he was tons better than that years crop.

Afleet Alex was the Big Brown of his crop.

Really good horse with a truly awful supporting cast.

i disagree with that too.....alex was twice the horse big brown was. he won grade 1's at 2 and 3....big brown was a 3 race wonder.

Swaps or Nassua perhaps deserved to win the triple crown. Swaps didn't run in all 3 races and Nassua would have won the triple crown if not for Swaps win in the Derby.

Agreed. Don't forget that Rose probably cost him the BC Juvenile as well.
