The Obameter: Tracking Obama's Campaign Promises

PolitiFact has compiled more than 500 promises that Barack Obama made during the campaign and is tracking their progress on our Obameter.

We rate their status as Not Yet Rated, In the Works or Stalled. Once we find action is completed, we rate them Promise Kept, Compromise or Promise Broken.

Politifact.com is either full of crap or Obama is the greatest President in history, fullfilling 88% of his campaign promises in his 1st 1 1/2 year in office.

Some of these sites such as politifact.com claim to be unbiased but they are actually quite biased. That is a liberal site posing as an an unbiased site. If you check out the site for a few minutes, you will see that they have quite a liberal bias. If you do a search, you will find several article that talk about politifact's obvious bias.

As Riot said, they claim that Obama has kept 116 promises and only broken 16 of them. If you belive that, I have some swamp land I'd like to sell you.

The site has each individual campaign promise enumerated and described. Which ones listed as kept are actually false?

Obama must be the greatest President in history if he has already fullfilled 88% of his campaign promises in his first 1 1/2 year in office.

they did say he'd made over 500 promises, so he's nowhere close to 88%. it was a site i'd never seen before, but i thought folks might be interested. i wasn't condemning or condoning it, just thought it might have some pertinent information....

They have him keeping 116 out of 132 promises. That was where I came up with the 88%.

I think that is right that he made around 500 promises. I'm not sure why they only showed 132.

In fairness to Obama, it is only 1 1/2 years into his term so I wouldn't have expected him to have met all of his promises within his first 18 months in office. On the other hand, he acted like he was going to do some of those things immediately.

I am glad that he hasn't closed Gitmo. There is no good reason to close it. I think it would be very dangerous to release those terrorists into Illinois considering that a high percenatge of the ones they have released so far are have rejoined terrorist groups.

they say it right on the page:

PolitiFact has compiled more than 500 promises that Barack Obama made during the campaign and is tracking their progress on our Obameter

and the plan wasn't to release the terrorists in illinois, but to hold them at a currently empty federal facility...perhaps someone(s) made noise about the plan impacting his home state? surely not!

I couldn't list them all or I'd be here all day. The site gives him credit (#125) for keeping his promise to end the war in Iraq. If they count that as a "promise-kept", I'd love to see what a "promise-broken" looks like.

They give him credit (#167) for a promise-kept to only give aid to Pakistan on condition that they prevent the Taliban from using Pakistan as a base. How can they count that as a promise-kept?

To call many of these "promises-kept" is totally subjective. I think that most people would call many of these "promises-broken" rather than "promises-kept".
